THE DRAFT GOT WEIRD. GOOD.

Monday night's draft answered the first big question of the Chaos era: yes, people actually changed how they drafted. Dave C took Josh Allen at 13 and Brandon Aubrey at 36. Dan took Ka'imi Fairbairn two picks later. Pat took Will Reichard in Round 5. Three years ago, that sentence would have needed a wellness check.
Now it makes sense. Gotham pays 10 points for every touchdown. Rush attempts are worth half a point before the runner even gains a yard. Receiving first downs count. Made field goals pay by the yard. Miss one and lose six. The new rules do not care what your usual draft guide told you.
George handled that problem by drafting excellent football players. Hail Mary George opened with Jahmyr Gibbs, Lamar Jackson, Justin Jefferson and Brock Bowers. If there was a trick to that strategy, the rest of us missed it.
Farrar had a different kind of night. Dolly's Dolls landed Derrick Henry and Puka Nacua early, then somehow found Josh Jacobs at pick 137. The Gazette's Chaos model had Jacobs 43rd overall. Apparently everyone took a bathroom break at the same time.
Then there is Catyn. Balls? I'm In! used the No. 10 pick on J'Mari Taylor, then dropped him before the season even started. Was it a wasted first-round pick? In the narrow sense that he never played a snap for the team, yes. The good news is that CeeDee Lamb, Jalen Hurts, Quinshon Judkins and Tee Higgins give Catyn several chances to make this paragraph age badly.
There is also a title to defend. Henny won the first Gotham championship over Mike. Dave B took Year 2, beating Alex in the final. Now the league has a first-time manager in Dave C, a reigning champ trying to repeat, two former runners-up looking for another shot, and eight other people who would prefer this paragraph stop naming everybody else.
And that is where we are. Twelve rosters, four Daves, one new scoring system and a full season to find out which “reach” was secretly brilliant. Everybody loves their team today. Please save this issue.
