Week 2 • Chaos has learned precision

THREE GAMES BY FIVE POINTS. CHAOS HAS LEARNED PRECISION.

Pat bounced back. Bobby benched the win. Mike became 2–0 with 124 points. Injuries took attendance. Week 2 was quieter on the scoreboard and much meaner everywhere else.

Gotham Gazette Week 2 editorial illustration showing the week's scores, injuries, waiver panic, and an 8.2 Chaos Index.
Week 2 replaced the blowtorch with a scalpel.

Week 1 gave us 298 points and a 115-point blowout. Week 2 looked at all that noise, lowered its voice, and put three games inside 5.04 points.

Ben beat Bobby by 1.58. Alex beat Dave C by 1.89. Mike beat the reigning champion by 5.04 while scoring 124.36, the second-lowest total of the week. This is the kind of efficiency normally associated with budget airlines.

Pat posted the week's high score at 231.93, beating George by 74.83. Jaxon Smith-Njigba scored 60.00, Will Reichard added 41.00, and the Rams defense supplied 25.00. Trevor Lawrence contributed 5.36 because apparently every group project needs one person who says, "Sorry, just seeing this."

Dan survived a 0.30 from Jaxson Dart and still moved to 2–0. Ben also reached 2–0. Mike is 2–0 too, despite sitting eleventh in total points scored. The standings have begun openly mocking us.

At the other end, Dave B, last year's champion, is 0–2 and twelfth in points. Farrar is 0–2 after injuries hollowed out several premium roster spots. Catyn is also 0–2, though her 347.14 points are comfortably ahead of both of them.

The broader lesson is becoming clear: Chaos scoring is not merely producing large totals. It is moving leverage into places that used to be footnotes. In Week 2, our simplest kicker-and-defense audit changes three of the six winners. More on that shortly, because apparently we built a laboratory and called it a league.

AROUND GOTHAM

Six games, six different ways to develop a complex

Loose Endz return from exile with the week's high score

Loose Endz 231.93 • Hail Mary George 157.10

Pat went from losing with 211.46 to winning with 231.93, which is a useful reminder that fantasy football is less about personal growth than opponent selection.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba scored 60.00. Will Reichard scored 41.00. The Rams defense scored 25.00. Trevor Lawrence scored 5.36. Pat also left Patrick Mahomes' 44.80 on the bench and still won by 74.83. There are mistakes, and then there are mistakes made from a yacht.

George got 40.28 from Jahmyr Gibbs and 25.87 from Bhayshul Tuten, but Justin Jefferson, Luther Burden, T.J. Hockenson, and Terry McLaurin combined for only 30.85. Seattle's defense gave him 27.00 and could not drag the rest of the afternoon with it.

Ball Hogs are 2–0 and the math has questions

Ball Hogs 124.36 • Hailee Steinfeld's Husband 119.32

Mike won with the second-lowest score of the week. Bryce Young gave him 39.53 and DeVonta Smith added 35.45. After that, the lineup became a group meditation.

Dave B got 39.40 from James Cook and 29.25 from Dalton Kincaid, then received minus-4.00 from Cameron Dicker and minus-6.00 from the Lions defense. Ten negative points from kicker and defense in a five-point loss is less a footnote than a confession.

Remove kicker and defense points from both teams, leaving every other score alone, and Dave B wins 129.32 to 119.36. That is not standard scoring. It is a simple leverage test, and Chaos just changed the winner.

Zaddy Dan survives 0.30 at quarterback because apparently he can

Zaddy Dan 194.42 • Balls? I'm In! 175.57

Jaxson Dart scored 0.30. Dan still won by 18.85. Kenneth Walker produced 39.20, Breece Hall 23.17, George Kittle 23.75, Chuba Hubbard 26.42, Kaimi Fairbairn 21.33, and Pittsburgh's defense 23.00.

Catyn got 48.00 from CeeDee Lamb and 30.44 from Jalen Hurts. Jordan Mason gave her a zero from an RB slot, and the rest never quite closed the gap.

There is another Chaos wrinkle here. Remove kicker and defense points, and Catyn leads 154.74 to 150.09. Dan's victory is real. So is the fact that the weird positions supplied the margin.

Wonder Waah wins by 1.58; Bobby's bench would like a word

Wonder Waah 180.36 • Bobby's Juicemen 178.78

Ben got 55.38 from Dak Prescott and 47.45 from Amon-Ra St. Brown. Dallas Goedert was injured after one catch and finished with 0.90. Ben survived anyway.

Bobby got 54.02 from Jonathan Taylor, 33.35 from Travis Kelce, and then started Caleb Williams' 9.87 while Jared Goff scored 52.51 on the bench. That one choice is a 42.64-point swing. Make the swap and Bobby scores 221.42.

This is our first Bench Crime that actually changes a result. Last week's 298-point team has now experienced both sides of democracy.

Alex and Dave C produce a thriller with 415.27 combined points

Love the Puca hate the game 208.58 • Pass Rush David 206.69

Alex got 52.25 from Davante Adams, 39.37 from Christian McCaffrey, and 22.50 from Houston's defense. Marvin Harrison Jr. scored zero in the flex. Apparently Alex wanted the game to remain sporting.

Dave C received 73.37 from Josh Allen and 47.00 from Brandon Aubrey. That is 120.37 from two lineup spots and still a loss by 1.89. Malik Nabers, Rome Odunze, and Colston Loveland combined for 9.70.

Unlike the Mike and Dan games, the kicker-and-defense audit does not flip this one. Alex still leads 168.75 to 149.19 without those spots. Sometimes Chaos merely makes the furniture shake.

Mariah Carey remembers there are other people in the band

Mariah Carey 194.70 • Dolly's Dolls 133.87

Henny followed a 138.23 opener with 194.70. Omarion Hampton scored 32.38, Ja'Marr Chase 34.75, and Evan McPherson remained very much employed at 38.00. This time the kicker had coworkers.

Farrar's week was less cooperative. Derrick Henry had 31.72 and Jaylen Waddle 25.30, but Harrison Mevis scored minus-2.00 and multiple injured or unavailable players limited the roster's options. The Vikings defense scored 34.50 on the bench, but even that swap would not have fixed a 60.83-point loss.

Henny is 1–1. Farrar is 0–2 and has responded by turning the transaction page into a live blog.

THE BOARD

Gazette power rankings after Week 2

Records matter. Points matter. Two weeks are still two weeks. These rankings are editorial, which is a dignified way of saying everyone may complain.

01

Zaddy Dan

2–0 · 479.05 PF · unchanged

Dan has the league's highest cumulative score and just won with 0.30 from his quarterback. The throne remains occupied.

02

Wonder Waah

2–0 · 414.10 PF · up 1

Ben beat Bobby by 1.58, survived Goedert's injury, and gets credit for being the kind of 2–0 team whose math looks normal.

03

Bobby's Juicemen

1–1 · 477.08 PF · down 1

One loss does not erase 477 points. It does, however, make Jared Goff's 52.51 on the bench impossible to stop looking at.

04

Loose Endz

1–1 · 443.39 PF · up 1

Pat follows a strong loss with the week's highest score. The roster has now produced 211 and 232. The opponent lottery is no longer the entire story.

05

Love the Puca hate the game

1–1 · 382.83 PF · up 1

Alex wins the best game of the week by 1.89. Davante, CMC, and a useful defense give the roster several ways to get there.

06

Pass Rush David

1–1 · 393.10 PF · up 2

Dave C lost by 1.89 while scoring 206.69. Josh Allen and Aubrey were absurd. The concern is how much they had to be.

07

Hail Mary George

1–1 · 374.19 PF · down 3

George's Week 1 win still matters. Week 2's 157.10 reminds us the roster can get very thin when the stars merely become human.

08

Ball Hogs

2–0 · 307.06 PF · up 1

Mike is undefeated and eleventh in points scored. If he reaches 3–0 like this, we will stop calling it luck and begin reviewing local witchcraft statutes.

09

Mariah Carey

1–1 · 332.93 PF · up 3

Henny rebounds by 56 points and finally gives McPherson help. The floor is still concerning, but the ceiling has arrived.

10

Balls? I'm In!

0–2 · 347.14 PF · up 1

Catyn is winless but has outscored three teams above her in the standings. This is not comfort, exactly, but it is evidence.

11

Dolly's Dolls

0–2 · 316.70 PF · down 4

Farrar's roster has moved from underperforming to triage. The transaction count suggests he noticed.

12

Hailee Steinfeld's Husband

0–2 · 290.84 PF · down 2

The reigning champion is last in total points and lost Week 2 by five after his kicker and defense combined for minus-10. The crown is currently being stored somewhere safe.

THE CHAOS DESK

The index has crossed into Full Chaos

Week 2 Chaos Index: 8.2

This week's number is not vibes. The 2026 formula remains 40% outcome impact, 20% positional volatility, 20% scoring concentration, and 20% league-wide unpredictability.

Outcome impact: 10.0. Remove kicker and defense points from the existing Week 2 totals and three of six winners change: Dave B over Mike, Catyn over Dan, and Bobby over Ben. This is not a standard-scoring simulation. It isolates the leverage created by two Chaos-heavy positions.

Positional volatility: 7.5. Starting kickers ranged from minus-4.00 to 47.00, a 51-point spread. Starting defenses ranged from minus-6.00 to 27.00, a 33-point spread.

Scoring concentration: 7.0. Josh Allen scored 73.37, Jaxon Smith-Njigba 60.00, Dak Prescott 55.38, Jonathan Taylor 54.02, and Davante Adams 52.25. Several matchups were carried by a small number of outsized performances.

League-wide unpredictability: 6.5. Three games landed inside 5.04 points, the reigning champion fell to 0–2, and the league's second-lowest Week 2 scorer became 2–0.

THE CASUALTY WARD

Status as of September 24
Gotham Gazette editorial cartoon depicting a fantasy football injury ward, waiver wire panic, and a delayed dispatch from London.
Week 2 did not ask whether your roster had insurance.

The injury report has become part of the standings

Bobby: Nico Collins missed Week 2 with a hamstring injury and did not practice Wednesday ahead of Week 3. Bobby still has the league's second-highest points total, but one premium receiver remains in the repair shop.

George: Brock Bowers missed Week 2 with a knee injury after also missing the opener. He returned to limited practice Wednesday, so the door to Week 3 is at least open.

Ben: Dallas Goedert suffered an MCL sprain during Week 2 and is expected to miss a few weeks. Ben received 0.90 from him Sunday and added Pat Freiermuth on Wednesday. This is what we in journalism call a plot with supporting documents.

Farrar: Puka Nacua was inactive Monday night with a hip injury and did not practice Wednesday. For an 0–2 team already changing players at speed, "wait and see" is not the most soothing phrase in the language.

Injury sources: Houston Texans · Las Vegas Raiders · NFL.com · Los Angeles Rams. Status can change before kickoff.

BENCH CRIMES

We have our first conviction

Bobby left the winning quarterback on the bench

Week 1's bench section was mostly hindsight. Week 2 gives us the clean version. Jared Goff scored 52.51 on Bobby's bench. Caleb Williams scored 9.87 in the lineup. The difference is 42.64 points in a game Bobby lost by 1.58.

That swap produces a 221.42–180.36 win. No need to invent a complicated alternate lineup. The win was sitting directly behind the starter holding a clipboard.

Pat left Mahomes' 44.80 behind Lawrence's 5.36, a 39.44-point difference, but still won by 74.83. Dan left the Patriots' 47.50 defense on the bench for Pittsburgh's 23.00 and still won. Those are bench misdemeanors. Bobby has the felony.

THE TRANSACTION DESK

Farrar has discovered the refresh button

Dolly's Dolls are rebuilding the plane during flight

The visible transaction log shows Farrar adding Tyreek Hill on September 23, then dropping him the next morning for Tank Bigsby. In between, Dolly's Dolls added Oronde Gadsden and Chase McLaughlin while dropping the 49ers defense and Harrison Mevis.

This is not criticism. At 0–2 with injuries everywhere, standing still would be stranger. It is merely worth noting that Dolly's Dolls have moved from roster management into live theater.

Ben made the week's most obvious injury response by adding Pat Freiermuth on September 24 after Goedert's MCL sprain. One transaction. Clear reason. Very German.

Transaction notes reflect the Yahoo log supplied September 24 and may not include every earlier move.

THE WAIVER WINDOW

Availability snapshot supplied September 24

The quarterback aisle is surprisingly stocked. These are current Yahoo availability and Week 2 results from the supplied list, not Gazette rest-of-season rankings.

QB · FA · 28.59 Week 2 points

Kyler Murray

Available in the supplied snapshot and already familiar to anyone who watched Henny's Week 1 experience. Check current health and matchup before doing anything dramatic.

QB · FA · 24.94 Week 2 points

Baker Mayfield

A second startable-looking quarterback sitting in free agency. Gotham has enough quarterback depth that panic should be a choice, not a requirement.

WR · W (Sep 26) · 12.34 Week 2 points

Quentin Johnston

Recently dropped by Farrar and now visible on waivers. The interesting part is not the 12.34 by itself, but whether his role remains useful once the waiver clears.

WR · FA · 10.65 Week 2 points

Dontayvion Wicks

Not a fireworks score, but an available receiver worth checking if injuries have turned your depth chart into a waiting room.

RB · FA · 10.77 Week 2 points

Emanuel Wilson

Running back availability is usually where dignity goes to die. A healthy body with a role is enough to earn a second look.

WR · FA · 10.50 Week 2 points

Tre Tucker

Henny added him after Week 1 and he later returned to the available pool. Gotham's waiver wire has begun developing recurring characters.

CORRECTIONS & OTHER DISCOMFORTS

Last week we wrote that Ben's bench decisions might matter more against Bobby. They did not. Bobby's bench decision mattered considerably more.

The Week 1 Board kept Mike ninth after a win because his scoring total was modest. He won again with 124.36 and is now 2–0. We have moved him to eighth. This is known as institutional flexibility.

Week 1's Chaos Index was 6.6. Week 2 is 8.2. The index is working exactly as intended, which is an alarming thing to say about anything with the word Chaos in its name.
