Week 3 • Nobody escaped undefeated

THE UNDEFEATED ARE EXTINCT. SEVEN TEAMS WANT THE THRONE.

Dan lost. Ben lost. Mike lost. Every 2–0 team went down, seven managers are now tied at 2–1, and three weeks of football have produced exactly zero clarity.

Seven fantasy football contenders reaching toward one football throne in Gotham, representing the seven teams tied at 2-1.
Seven teams. One throne. No undefeated teams left to complain about the seating chart.

Week 3 began with three undefeated teams. It ended with none. Farrar handed Mike his first loss. Alex handed Dan his first loss. Henny handed Ben his first loss. Gotham has achieved competitive balance by force.

Pat technically owns first place after a 233.76–138.53 win over Catyn and now leads the league with 677.15 points scored. Dan is only 13.61 points behind. Bobby, despite sitting at 1–2, has scored 655.86. The standings say one thing. The points column keeps clearing its throat.

The week's biggest statement came from George, who put 236.69 on Dave C and won by 112.46. The week's highest score belonged to Farrar at 243.75, one week after Dolly's Dolls fell to 0–2. Apparently the emergency rebuild has cup holders.

The week's most important lesson may have come from the benches. Bobby lost by 4.26 with at least two single-player swaps available that would have changed the result. Dan lost by 9.11 while Bo Nix scored 39.12 behind Drake Maye's 1.61. Three weeks in, the most dangerous player on your roster may be the one you thoughtfully decided not to use.

And the projections? Only four of twelve teams beat them. Gotham collectively finished 105.21 points below Yahoo's pregame estimates. We have reached the portion of the season where the numbers are becoming useful, but only if we stop treating one number as the answer.

AROUND GOTHAM

All 12 teams, because nobody gets to hide after Week 3

Loose Endz take first place while the kicker commits a hostile takeover

Loose Endz 233.76 • Balls? I'm In! 138.53

Pat got 49.61 from Jaxon Smith-Njigba and 53.00 from Will Reichard, which is a sentence that would have sounded medically concerning under the old scoring system.

Catyn got useful games from Tee Higgins, Aaron Jones, and Quinshon Judkins, but Jalen Hurts finished at 18.20, Hunter Henry produced 1.00 in the flex, and Dallas' defense went negative. Balls? I'm In! is now the league's only 0–3 team, although 485.67 total points means this is not the least productive roster in Gotham.

Dolly's Dolls leave the emergency room carrying 243.75 points

Dolly's Dolls 243.75 • Ball Hogs 168.73

Farrar's first win was not subtle. Derrick Henry scored 45.37, Chase McLaughlin scored 41.00, and the Vikings defense scored 52.00. Kicker plus defense: 93 points. Somewhere, conventional fantasy scoring felt a chill.

Mike got 64.52 from Bijan Robinson and still lost by 75.02. Ball Hogs falls from 2–0 to 2–1, and Farrar immediately turns the 0–2 start into something that now looks less like a diagnosis and more like a prologue.

Dave B gets his first win. Bobby finds another one on the bench.

Hailee Steinfeld's Husband 183.04 • Bobby's Juicemen 178.78

The reigning champion is finally in the win column behind 39.40 from Javonte Williams, 36.53 from James Cook, and 20.00 from the Lions defense.

Bobby lost by 4.26. Jakobi Meyers scored 26.15 on the bench while Ladd McConkey scored 12.35 in the lineup. Rico Dowdle scored 27.50 while David Montgomery scored 13.65. Either one-for-one swap changes the winner. This is Bobby's second straight week with a victory sitting in street clothes.

George wins by 112 and still has 35 points sitting in bubble wrap

Hail Mary George 236.69 • Pass Rush David 124.23

Jahmyr Gibbs scored 68.20, Bhayshul Tuten added 31.18, and George turned a 1–1 record into a 2–1 record before anyone could ask whether the lineup was optimal.

It was not. Brock Bowers returned from his knee issue and scored 35.35 on George's bench while T.J. Hockenson scored 2.10. George won by 112.46 anyway, so this goes in the file as a victimless bench crime.

Dave C also left Brock Purdy's 54.41 behind Josh Allen's 25.19. Even that swap would not have rescued a 124.23 day. Sometimes the correct lineup is not a time machine.

Alex ends Dan's unbeaten run while Dan discovers two separate ways he could have won

Love the Puca hate the game 193.60 • Zaddy Dan 184.49

Alex got 37.35 from Christian McCaffrey, 30.15 from Drake London, and 29.50 from the Texans defense. Cam Little scored minus-1.00 at kicker, which apparently was just Alex keeping the matchup interesting.

Dan started Drake Maye for 1.61 while Bo Nix scored 39.12 on the bench. That swap alone changes the result. Chris Boswell also scored 40.67 behind Kaimi Fairbairn's 10.00. That swap also changes the result. Dan had two independent buttons marked WIN and selected neither.

Mariah Carey wins the game Yahoo projected neither team to enjoy

Mariah Carey 164.48 • Wonder Waah 158.08

Henny and Ben were projected for 403.60 combined points. They scored 322.56. Someone still had to receive a win.

Tyler Shough gave Henny 39.25 and Ja'Marr Chase added 31.80. Ben got 29.35 from Christian Watson and 24.50 from the Giants defense, but Ja'Quinden Price finished at minus-0.30. Henny is now 2–1. Ben is also 2–1. This league has become a roundabout.

THE PROJECTION DESK

Three weeks in, the estimates are becoming evidence instead of scripture

Only four teams beat projection

Yahoo projected 2,313.37 points across Gotham's twelve teams. The league scored 2,208.16, a collective miss of 105.21 points.

THE BOARD

Gazette power rankings after Week 3

These are not the Yahoo standings. They weigh record, scoring, recent performance, lineup decisions, and the fact that three weeks is finally more than one week repeated three times.

01

Loose Endz

2–1 · 677.15 PF · up 3

Highest total points, two straight wins, and a Week 3 score of 233.76. Pat gets the chair for now. Nobody gets comfortable.

02

Zaddy Dan

2–1 · 663.54 PF · down 1

The first loss was largely self-inflicted. The roster remains one of the league's best. The lineup card is now part of the scouting report.

03

Bobby's Juicemen

1–2 · 655.86 PF · unchanged

Third-most points in Gotham, two consecutive close losses, and two consecutive weeks with winning points on the bench. The roster is better than the record. The manager has been informed.

04

Hail Mary George

2–1 · 610.88 PF · up 3

A 236.69-point demolition and Brock Bowers returning to an already productive roster. George has moved from interesting to annoying.

05

Love the Puca hate the game

2–1 · 576.43 PF · unchanged

Alex has won two straight, just ended Dan's unbeaten start, and is getting enough across the lineup that one minus-1 kicker did not matter.

06

Wonder Waah

2–1 · 572.18 PF · down 4

Ben's first loss came in an ugly low-scoring game, not a collapse. Goedert's knee remains a roster issue. The foundation is still solid.

07

Dolly's Dolls

1–2 · 560.45 PF · up 4

Farrar just led the entire league in scoring. The transaction frenzy looks substantially less funny when the team immediately drops 243.75.

08

Mariah Carey

2–1 · 497.41 PF · up 1

Henny has won two straight after opening in last place. The points total is modest. The record has stopped caring.

09

Pass Rush David

1–2 · 517.33 PF · down 3

Dave C followed a 206.69 loss with 124.23. Rookie-managing remains an immersive educational experience.

10

Ball Hogs

2–1 · 475.79 PF · down 2

Mike's undefeated run ended loudly. He is still 2–1, but now last among the seven teams with that record in total points.

11

Hailee Steinfeld's Husband

1–2 · 473.88 PF · up 1

Dave B finally gets a win, and it came against one of the league's highest-scoring rosters. The defending champion has a pulse.

12

Balls? I'm In!

0–3 · 485.67 PF · down 2

Catyn is the only winless team, but not the lowest-scoring team. The path out exists. It simply needs to begin this week.

THE CHAOS DESK

Less result-flipping than Week 2. More league-wide instability.

Week 3 Chaos Index: 7.7

The index uses the same formula every week: 40% outcome impact, 20% positional volatility, 20% scoring concentration, and 20% league-wide unpredictability.

Outcome impact: 6.0. The kicker-and-defense leverage test flips one of six Week 3 results, Alex over Dan, but two additional losses were reversible with a single obvious bench swap: Bobby and Dan.

Positional volatility: 9.5. Starting kickers ranged from minus-1.00 to 53.00, a 54-point spread. Starting defenses ranged from minus-1.50 to 52.00, a 53.50-point spread.

Scoring concentration: 8.5. Farrar received 93 points from kicker and defense alone. Gibbs scored 68.20 for George, Bijan Robinson 64.52 for Mike, and Reichard 53.00 for Pat.

League-wide unpredictability: 8.5. Every 2–0 team lost, seven teams are now 2–1, the Week 2 last-place defending champion won, and the Week 2 0–2 team led the league in scoring.

BENCH CRIMES

Week 3 had receipts

Dan had two different ways to win without making a trade

Drake Maye scored 1.61. Bo Nix scored 39.12 on the bench. That single swap turns Dan's 184.49 into 222.00 and beats Alex.

Kaimi Fairbairn scored 10.00. Chris Boswell scored 40.67 on the bench. That single swap also beats Alex.

Bobby is not far behind. He lost by 4.26 while Jakobi Meyers outscored Ladd McConkey by 13.80 and Rico Dowdle outscored David Montgomery by 13.85. Either swap produces a win. This is now Bobby's second consecutive Bench Crime with a body count.

George left Brock Bowers' 35.35 behind T.J. Hockenson's 2.10 but won by 112.46. We are classifying that as reckless driving in an empty parking lot.

Bench points. Starter pain. A recurring Gotham public-health concern.

THE INJURY & RETURN DESK

Tuesday status check; practice reports will continue to move

Brock Bowers is back. George received the memo after kickoff.

Bowers returned in Week 3 after missing the first two games following a knee procedure. The Raiders reported 10 catches, 116 yards, and a touchdown in his season debut. In Gotham, that translated to 35.35 points on George's bench.

This is the useful injury lesson: returning from injury should lower certainty, not automatically erase a star's role. If the player is active, study the expected workload and the team's actual plan.

Puka Nacua is the return to watch for Farrar

Nacua missed Week 3 with his hip/groin issue. Before that game, Sean McVay said that if Nacua did not play, the expectation was that, absent a setback, he would be good to go the following week. That puts Week 4 squarely on Farrar's watch list.

Do not translate expected back into automatic start before the practice reports arrive. But after Farrar just scored 243.75 without him, this is the kind of returning depth most 1–2 teams would accept.

Caleb Williams remains a monitor for Bobby

Chicago ruled Williams out of Week 3 with a hamstring injury after he missed practice all week. The Bears had previously called him week-to-week. As of Tuesday, Week 4 needs an actual practice update before Bobby can treat him as available.

Dallas Goedert was out again for Ben

Philadelphia ruled Goedert out of Monday night's Week 3 game with a knee injury. Ben used Pat Freiermuth for 5.88 instead. Until Goedert returns to practice, tight end remains a live roster-management question for Wonder Waah.

NFL updates: Raiders on Bowers' return · Rams on Nacua · Bears on Williams · Eagles on Goedert. Status is current as of Tuesday morning and can change before Week 4.

MANAGER'S CORNER

Three weeks in: what should actually change about how you set a lineup?
1 · Trust opportunity over reputation

Touches and targets are becoming real data

Three weeks is enough to stop treating preseason role guesses as equally valuable as actual usage. Carries, targets, routes, goal-line work, and snap share should now have more influence on close calls.

2 · A projection is a tiebreaker, not a boss

Eight of twelve Gotham teams missed projection this week

Use the number. Do not obey it. Yahoo missed the league total by 105.21 points in Week 3, and several of the biggest swings came from players with established roles outperforming their estimate.

3 · In Chaos, K and D/ST are not chores

They can decide the game

Farrar got 93 points from those two slots. Pat got 68. George got 42.17. You cannot predict every spike, but you can stop treating the positions as disposable afterthoughts.

4 · Returning stars need context, not fear

Bowers is the Week 3 case study

George had a rational reason to be cautious. Bowers had missed two games. He then returned to 10 catches, 116 yards, a touchdown, and 35.35 Gotham points. Active status, practice participation, and expected workload matter more than the word injury by itself.

5 · Audit your bench before waivers

The answer may already be on your roster

Dan and Bobby did not need a transaction to win Week 3. They needed different start/sit decisions. Before chasing the waiver wire, compare your own high-usage bench options to the weakest role in your starting lineup.

6 · Keep optionality late

Use FLEX like a tool

When possible, keep later-game RB/WR/TE players in FLEX rather than locking them into positional slots early. Injuries and inactive news arrive late. Your lineup should leave you somewhere to move.

THE WAIVER WINDOW

Availability snapshot supplied September 29

Do not read this as a command to add six quarterbacks. Read it as evidence that Gotham still has usable emergency depth.

QB · Waivers Sep. 30 · 27.16

Marcus Mariota

The highest Week 3 score in the supplied available-player list. Useful if quarterback health or performance has turned your roster into a meeting.

QB · Waivers Sep. 30 · 25.68

Jacoby Brissett

Another available quarterback with a productive Week 3. Role security matters more than chasing the point total itself.

QB · Waivers Sep. 30 · 24.76

Sam Darnold

The waiver list has enough quarterback production that managers do not need to treat a struggling starter as a family heirloom.

WR · Waivers Sep. 30 · 14.66

Jordan Addison

The most interesting non-quarterback near the top of the supplied list. Check role and health before bidding, but this is the kind of name-plus-opportunity combination worth investigating.

RB · Waivers Sep. 30 · 11.00

Kaelon Black

Running back depth is rarely glamorous. It is still the position most likely to make a manager regret not looking one week earlier.

WR · Waivers Sep. 30 · 10.79

Quentin Johnston

Still available in the supplied snapshot. Three weeks in, target volume and route participation should determine whether he is a real add, not the name alone.

CORRECTIONS & OTHER DISCOMFORTS

Last week we said Mike might force us to stop calling a low-scoring 2–0 start luck if he reached 3–0. Farrar handled the paperwork for us.

We also moved Farrar to No. 7 after the 0–2 start became a 243.75-point week. This is not recency bias. It is recency with supporting documentation.

Week 2's Chaos Index remains the season high at 8.2. Week 3 lands at 7.7. Chaos has not disappeared. It has simply learned to share.
